Transitioning to Kindergarten

The School-Readiness Initiative eases the transition to kindergarten for children and families. This transition is a big step; kindergarten is important in order for children to learn critical skills that are essential for future school success and achievement. Focus On Our Future is working to:

• Strengthen connections between early-childhood education providers and schools by providing joint trainings; aid the development of school-readiness materials for families to use to assist their child in preparing for kindergarten and facilitate visits between early childhood education programs and kindergartens.
• Promote transition planning that spells out how school districts will work with early childhood education providers, children and families to ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.
• Strengthen bonds between families and schools through a Focus On Our Future school-readiness forum for family members to receive information about kindergarten and by providing resource materials that promote school readiness to both schools and families.
